The Thames-Avon Express

This shot is taken from the island platform of Ruislip Gardens 'underground ' station. It shows the London Victoria to Stratford-upon-Avon,'Thames-Avon Express', hauled by W.R. 'King' class 4-6-0, No. 6024, 'King Edward I', passing on the parallel main line from Greenford to West Ruislip. Interestingly this would be 'old stamping ground' for 'King Edward I' since this stretch of line is part of the old G.W.R. London Paddington to Birmingham Snow Hill route along which this loco would have frequently run some forty years ago. (30th December 2004)
