Duke of Gloucester

Standard Class 8 pacific, No. 71000, 'Duke of Gloucester' at Ropley (Mid-Hants Railway)
on a cold and gloomy winter's day. (13th December 2004)

("The Duke" had just hauled the "Cathedrals Express" from London Victoria via Redhill and Guilford to Alton. Here she was joined by Mid-Hants resident loco No. 34016, 'Bodmin' and together the two locos double headed the special excursion 'Over the Alps' to Ropley. Here 'The Duke' was uncoupled and the train continued to Alresford with just 'Bodmin' in charge. 'The Duke' was then serviced at Ropley depot and later turned around using a nearby 'triangle' on the main rail network.)
