CENTRAL STEAM DVD has fascinating access behind the scenes at preserved steam heritage railway, the Great Central Railway. The Great Central is unique in Britain in that it is the only preserved line that has a double track so that the days when full size steam engines could pass each other can be recreated.

The series follows a year in the life of the railway, as we meet some of the seven hundred staff and volunteers who share their passion for the golden age of steam trains..

Recently steam train galleries received an email. "During the mid 50's until about 1959, I could hear the K class and C2X's shunting in the yard at Bognor Regis station which would have been about 500 to 600 yards away. At a time when I owned a bike I would stand on the saddle and look over the yard wall by the turntable behind the K in your photo collection and observe for hours on end the steam actvity. My regret is that I missed sight of the engine shed which I understand was demolished in the 50's having secreated in final years as a sub shed of Horsham unfinished examples of the Leader class."

A quick note to thank our contributors for the images being sent in, we are very much alive and kicking despite some technical and staffing changes. This months update consists of pictures sent in towards the end of last year and the calendar is now back online.
