Restoration Railway

THE SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY Running between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth, the 16 miles of reopened track of the Severn Valley Railway is one of the longest Heritage Railways in the country and runs through one of the most picturesque valleys in the West Midlands.

DEAN FOREST RAILWAY Set in the picturesque and tranquil Royal Forest in Gloucester, the Dean Forest Railway winds its way from the line's HQ at Norchard through Lydney Town and St Mary's Halt to Lydney Junction at one end, and Whitecroft and Parkend at the other

THE BATTLEFIELD LINE Opened in 1873 as the Ashby and Nuneaton Joint Railway, the Battlefield Line was renamed by its present owners when the track was re-laid back to Shenton Station, which partly stands on the site of 1845's Battle of Bosworth.

Telling the story of two railway companies in this documentary from 2005: first, the Brecon Mountain Railway, a heritage track opened in 1980, its narrow-gauge track having been laid over the original track bed of the second, the Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil Junction Railway Company.

Great British Steam

In this enthralling programme from 1994, we visit the North of England, birthplace of the industrial revolution and home to an enormous variety of steam interest. In Middleton, one of the world’s oldest railways has been resurrected, while the Bowes Railway works its early rope-hauled inclines. In the Lake District, narrow gauge steam conveys tourists through the beautiful scenery of Ravenglass and Eskdale, but equally delightful are the standard gauge railways over the North Yorkshire Moors, and in the high valley of South Tyneside.

Fascinating access behind the scenes at preserved steam heritage railway, the Great Central Railway. The Great Central is unique in Britain in that it is the only preserved line that has a double track so that the days when full size steam engines could pass each other can be recreated.

The series follows a year in the life of the railway, as we meet some of the seven hundred staff and volunteers who share their passion for the golden age of steam trains..

Recently steam train galleries received an email. "During the mid 50's until about 1959, I could hear the K class and C2X's shunting in the yard at Bognor Regis station which would have been about 500 to 600 yards away.  At a time when I owned a bike I would stand on the saddle and look over the yard wall by the turntable behind the K in your photo collection and observe for hours on end the steam actvity. My regret is that I missed sight of the engine shed which I understand was demolished in the 50's having secreated in final years as a sub shed of Horsham unfinished examples of the Leader class."

If any of our readers are able to help out a fellow steam train fan please feel free to write in or post on our facebook page.
